- Medifest:
'Zephyr
2003' was the name given to Medifest this year. This was a cutural,
literary and sports extravaganza held on the university campus from
20th to 24th December under the aegis of the Dramatic Society. Events
included competitions in English & Hindi debates, plays, dances,
singing, cartoon drawing, creative writing, essay, rangoli, teashirt
painting and many other cultural and sports events. Evenings saw dazzling
entertainment with 'hasya kavi sammelan", fashion show and rock
dancing. Needless to say, the entire show was a huge success.

AAPI-KGMU Conclave:
" Newer Trends & Strategies in Progress of Modern Medicine"
- joint meeting of the American Association of Physicians of Indian
Origin (AAPI) and KGMU was held on 23rd & 24th December 2003. This
conclave was organised with the objective of bringing AAPI - a very
powerful 38,000 member strong organisation in the US, to KGMU and build
linkages. From KGMU, the Organising Secretary was Dr MC Pant and Dr
SK Das was the Scierntific Secretary.
This was a gala event in which about 40 members of AAPI and many physicians
from India - both Georgian and non Georgian participated. On 22nd December
public lectures by Dr Masroor Ali (USA) and Prof SS Agarwal (ACTREC,
Mumbai)- both Georgians, were held. On 23rd December morning there was
a formal inauguration including film shows on KGMU and AAPI, followed
by lectures. In the afternoon, parallel CMEs were held in 9 different
departments with both AAPI and Indian speakers. On 24th morning the
2nd Prof NN Gupta- CG Agarwal Oration was delivered by Dr VS Mathur
from Houston, Texas. A symposium on "Drug Industry & KGMU"
was also held The gala social event was "Draupadi" ballet
performed by Hema Malini and her troupe on 23rd evening. There was much
good will and camaraderie all round with commitments for greater interaction
on both sides. AAPI promised substantial help - both financial and technical
to KGMU.
