With the expansion in the hospital more beds were added and the nursing staff also increased to keep the ratio between nurses and patients as 1:10. The cadre of Matron-in-Chief was changed to Senior Matron. Mrs. D.S. Briscoe was first Indian Senior Matron of this institution. The staffing position is : Senior Matron -1, Matron -1, Assistant-Matron -3, Tutors-11, Public Health Nurse Tutors-5, Sisters / Ward Masters-92, Staff Nurses-282 and Student Nurses-246. The Hospital also has a School of Nursing attached to it. A separate building for school of nursing was constructed in the year 1977, with adequate facilities for lectures, demonstrations and offices. The School of Nursing attached to Gandhi Memorial and Associated Hospitals, Lucknow provides 2 types of courses,viz.,(1) General Nursing Diploma (3 years' course) and (2) Midwifery Diploma ( 6 months course), which started in 1973. The midwifery course has 20 seats and is held at the Queen Mary's hospital. Candidates are eligible to apply after passing Intermediate Examination.
