The Gandhi Memorial & Associated Hospitals (GM & AH) complex is situated in the heart of the city of Lucknow in the close vicinity of 'Chowk' market and within 5 km from Charbagh Railway Station. It is linked to all parts of the city by public transport systems such as bus, taxi and tempo.
The hospital has facilities for histopathology, cytology, hematology, biochemistry, serology, microbiology, radiology including ultrasound and computed tomography, cardiac catheterisation, pacemaker implantation, balloon arterial angioplasty, Holter monitoring, electroencephalogram, nerve conduction velocity, electromyogram, evoked responses, audiometry, electroretinogram, hemodialysis, endoscopy, bronchoscopy, open heart surgery, hormonal assays etc. Neonatal Intensive Care facilities are available, as are Medical Intensive Care and Intensive Coronary Care facilities.
Private Wards (Rooms): There are a total of 90 paying private rooms available in the hospital. Of these, 51 are in the main building, 6 in Psychiatry, 15 in Queen Mary's Hospital, 3 in Kasturba Chest Hospital, 15 in Medicine and 1 in the Emergency Surgical Ward. Of the private wards, 17 are air conditioned (8 in the main building, 8 in Queen Mary's Hospital and 1 in Emergency Surgical Ward). The private wards have an attached toilet and provision for the stay of an attendant and for cooking. They are allotted on the recommendation of the treating consultant directly from OPD or by transfer from a general ward. Operation fee and other fees are charged as decided by the Hospital Board of Management from time to time. The charges are Rs 152/- per day for ordinary and Rs 434/- per day for airconditioned rooms.
There are 20 Operation Theatres(OTs) in the hospital including 1 emergency OT each in Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology and Orthopedics.
Intensive Care Units: Intensive Care Units are functional in Cardiology, Medicine, Neurosurgery, Surgery (Postoperative room), Cardiothoracic Surgery and Pediatrics.

There are nominal charges for procedures, operations and investigations as shown under Hospital Charges.
There are facilities for physiotherapy for OPD and indoor patients in the Departments of Orthopedics, Paraplegia Unit, Neurosurgery, Cardiovascular Surgery, Plastic Surgery and Neurology. There is 1 speech therapist each in the Plastic Surgery and Neurology Departments.
Emergency Pathology Services for indoor patients operate from 4 pm to 6 am. Sample receiving time is 4 pm to 8 pm and 10 pm to 4 am. Tests done in Emergency Pathology are blood counts (hemoglobin, total & differential white cell counts, general blood picture, platelets and packed cell volume), bleeding & coagulation time, serum urea & creatinine, random blood sugar and cerebrospinal fluid sugar, serum sodium, potassium, calcium (total & ionised), and serum bilirubin.
Besides this, all routine pathological tests are done between 10 am and 4 pm in the Department of Pathology under Prof MRS Kushwaha [Phones: 2257580 (O); 2263489 (R)] and all microbiological tests in the Department of Microbiology under Prof SK Agarwal [Phones: 2257569(O); 2255571 (R)]. Round the clock X-Ray and CT scan services are available for indoor patients. There is also a State Blood Bank on the campus which is managed by the State Government / Chief Medical Officer, Lucknow.
Ambulancesare available round the clock for patients. The charges for ambulance are Rs 8/- per kilometer but not less than Rs 61/- within corporation limits. Ambulance can be arranged through the PRO of the hospital. Phone: 2257352 / PBX Ext 208. Meals:The hospital provides meals free of cost to all poor and destitute patients as per the recommendation of the treating physician. Approximately 600 diets at a time are provided to poor patients every day. The meals are of 4 types:
1. Only breakfast - includes milk bread,butter and egg
2. Full vegetarian - Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner with north Indian food (one vegetable, dal, rice/roti).
3. Only milk diet - one packet of 500 ml for patients on tube feeds or young children.
4. Besides these there a limited number of special diets eg. egg, butter and extra diet is given to very needy and poor patients on the specific recommendation of the treating physician.
Mortuary: The hospital has a modern Mortuary where post mortem examinations of medico-legal cases are done. This is under the dual control of the Superintendent and Chief Medical Officer, Lucknow.
While Body Spiral CT Scan: Two spiral CT scanners have been established through Bet lease and are being provided since November 2001 at concessional charges to patients: Rs 500 for head scan and Rs 1000 for body scan.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging : MRI scan has been established through wet lease from December 2004. MRI charges are Rs 3500/-
Other facilities in the hospital include a post office, Allahabad Bank having ATM service, a Public Call Office for round the clock outstation and local phone calls, two 24 hour running medical shops - 1 in the main hospital and 1 in Lari Cardiology Centre.CSMMU Welfare Society is running 5 pharmacies round the clock, placed at the Departments of Surgery, Medicine, Pediatrics and Obstetrics & Gynecology and at the Surgical Emergency & Trauma Centre. These pharmacies provide drugs and disposables at concessional rates to patients. There are 3 free night stay dormitories (ran baseras) for relatives of poor patients, a canteen and 4 Sulabh Shauchalaya (public toilet) complexes. A State Government Employees Welfare Canteen which sells daily need articles at subsidised rates and a Public Distribution Shop which provides rations and kerosene oil to attendants of poor patients are also located on the campus. A police outpost is also present on the campus to maintain law and order and help in medicolegal cases.. There are juice shops, milk bar of Parag Dairy and coffee booths for the convenience of patients. Besides, the hospital has the busy 'chowk' market very close by. The hospital also has a PABX telephone system which has extensions to almost all important wards and departments.
Future Plans: 24 hour running pathology services are planned. A new cobalt radiotherapy unit is also coming up. |
