The Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical Universityis a state run university under the Uttar Pradesh government. .The Financial needs of the University are met out of grants in aid provided by Government of U.P and to a little extent by services provided by university and associated hospitals. The university provides education to undergraduate and postgraduate medical as well as nursing students at a highly subsidised fee. .The out -patient consultation charges are a meagre Rs. 1/- and admission charges are Rs.35/- only . The admitted patients are provided free professional consultations. However, some charges have been introduced since August 2000 for investigations. The budget for drugs and appliances falls extremely short as compared to the demand. Therefore, a large number of patients end up purchasing medicines and consumable appliances from the open market. Despite a rich clientele and an extremely powerful alumni, the university has not been a beneficiary of appreciable donations.
