The Urology Unit was accredited as a separate unit in the Department of Surgery in 1981 and it was elevated to an independent department in 1998 with Prof KM Singh as its first Head of Department. Prof D. Dalela became Head in July 2003 relinquished his charge to in Sept. 2008 as he opted for contractual appointment as Professor. Prof. S.N. Sankhwar took over as Head after that. |

Presently a team of five faculty members, two supporting
consultants, ten residents, One research officer and nearly 65 paramedical and ministerial staff ministerial staff personals are managing day to day affairs of the department. |

The department provides 'state of the art' diagnostic and therapeutic modalities in urology. |

The department has started M. Ch. in Urology after getting recognition from MCI in year 2005 and admits two students for every year. |

The Government of India recognizes the department as a 'Center of Excellence' for work on male contraception.
It is also recognized as a training centre for "No-Scalpel Vasectomy". The State innovation in Family Planning State Agency (SIFPSA) has given a 3 years project to this center to emerge as core training and service center in NSV. |

The department is active in organizing conferences. Twenty Nine (29) scientific meetings have been organized in the last 6 years (From 2004 to 2009). |

The department is very actively pursuing research in areas of prostatic diseases, reconstructive urology, stone disease etc. and many clinical projects are underway. |

The department has bed strength of 40 and admits approximately 796 cases annually. Bed occupancy rate in 100%. Three operation theatres and one OPD Endoscopic OT are running 6 days a week. Annual OPD attendance of new and old cases is about 14249. |

| MAP OF GROUND FLOOR SERVICES |

|
All out-patient services are provided in the ground floor of urology building. These services include the ‘out patient consultation area’, various ‘diagnostic facilities’ and certain ‘therapeutic facilities. |

The OPD
services are presently being run on three days
of the week. The OPD area has a patient waiting
area, resident evaluation cell and consultant
chambers. After getting registered, the patients
report to the “resident evaluation cell”. After
a basic work-up and evaluation by resident
doctors the patient visits the consultant. The
patient waiting area has a television showing
patient health education material. |

| The Litho Uro Center which is on the ground floor adjacent to the OPD area has been developed keeping the view the convenience of the patients. Soon after doctor consultation they can go directly to Litho Uro Center and get the various pathological and diagnostic tests done. Most reports are also made available immediately to the patients. This is a unique design and has been greatly appreciated by the patients and many visitors to our department. |

| Lithotripsy Unit |
|
|
The Dornier Alpha Machine is installed in the dept. for this purpose. Our machine has treated one thousand three hundred sixty (1360) new patients of kidney and ureteric stones till Jan. 2010. |

| Urodynamic Unit |
|
|
This specialized test is available in only few places in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Our center is equipped with the latest model from Dantec Company. This test is required in patients of voiding problems like neurological disease. |
|
|
| Uroradiology |
|
|
This unit has a 500 MA x-ray machine and ultrasound facility including a transrectal probe to evaluate prostatic problems. For most urological conditions these two tests are enough to arrive at a diagnosis. The state of art urethrograms, cystograms and IVP are done here. |

|
| Uropathology |
|
|
It is primarily a collection center and the specimens are sent to the Department of Pathology and Microbiology. The patients they can give their samples here and also collect their reports from this room. |

| Uropharmacy |
|
|
A dedicated drug store run by CSMMU Welfare Society for us provides all the medicine and surgical consumables at 20% - 25% lesser prize than the open market. |

| OPD DIAGNOSTIC ENDOSCOPY SUIT/OT |
|
|
|
| Situated on the ground floor adjacent to Litho-Uro Center, this OT has been developed for minor urological procedures like cystoscopy, DJ stent removal, DJ stent placement, Trocar cystostomy, Bladder biopsy, prostate biopsy and wound debridement. As procedures in this OT are performed every day it has expedited the overall diagnosis and treatment of the patients. |

| First Floor Services |
|
All activities related to No Scalpel Vasectomy are monitored from this office. |
The first floor of urology building houses the general ward, office of sister in-charge, nurse station, resident room and ward. |

| GENERAL WARD |

It has strength of 32 beds – 24 for males, 6 for females and one Isolation Bed. |
|

| RESIDENT ROOM |
|
There is a separate resident room on this floor along with a large departmental library. |

| Second Floor Services |
|
This is the newly constructed area (2006) and houses the “RP Sahi Urology OT Complex”, post-operative ward and attendant waiting area. We have three separate operation theatres. |

Endourological OT |
|
|
Here various endoscopic urological procedures are performed like transurethral resection of prostate (TURP), urinary bladder tumor (TURBT), urethral stricture (OIU), ureteroscopy and percutaneous nephrolithotripsy (PCNL). It has C-arm compatible OT table, C-arm image intensifier and plant for generation of RO water. The OT has most of the commonly required endoscopic instruments used for various procedures. |

| Laparoscopic Urology OT |
|
|
In this OT there is facility of endo-vision camera for performing laparoscopic procedures. Most commonly used laparoscopic instruments are also installed there permanently |

Open Urology OT |
|
|
Regular open surgeries including major urooncological and reconstructive urologic procedures are performed in this OT. This OT is connected to the laparoscopic OT so that these OTs can also be used during renal transplantation in future. |

| Post-Operative Ward |
|
|
Adjacent to the OT complex is the post-operative ward – divided into two parts one three bedded, isolated air conditioned area for sick patients and other four bedded general area. |
