| HISTORY |
The present Department of Radiotherapy was created on 16th December 1986 after the bifurcation of the parent radiology Department into two separate Departments of Radiotherapy and Radiodiagnosis. The parent department (integrated Department of Radiology) was established in this college in 1927. The diploma course (DMRE) was started in 1940 and M.D. (Radiology) in 1953. Radiotherapy work was started with the installation of 2 deep therapy X-ray units in the 1950’s, superficial therapy unit (Maximar –100) in 1960, and the first Cobalt Unit (Gammatron – II) in 1963.
After the bifurcation of the integrated department of Radiology Prof G N Agarwal became the first Head, Department of Radiotherapy. A new Cobalt Unit (Theratron 780 C) and a treatment Simulator (Shimadzu SAT – 10) were installed in 1989. Treatment planning systems (TSG-Radplan) and an Ultrasound machine (Wipro GE RT – 3200) were installed in 1994 and 1999 respectively. A new Cobalt Unit (Theratron 780 E) was installed in the year 2004. |

At present there are two seats annually for the M. D. (Radiotherapy) course. The department offers OPD services on all working days. The bed strength is 24 (16 male, 8 female). Clinical services provided are radiotherapy (including External Beam and Brachytherapy both), chemotherapy, ultrasound and CT Scan.
