The combined Department
of Radiology was created way back in the
year 1913. Dr. Amir Ali was the first
radiologist. Later, Dr. Raghunandan Lall
was appointed as the first Head of Department
in 1927. The seperate Department of Radiodiagnosis
came into existence on 22nd December,
1986 after bifurcation of Department of
Radiology.
This department has the
unique distinction of commencing DMRD
and MD (Radiology) as long back as 1940
and 1953 respectively. Since then the
department has produced eminent radiologists
of national and international repute
After the creation of
the Department of Radiodiagnosis in December
1986, Prof. V.K. Tandon was appointed
first Head of the Department of Radiodiagnosis.
Prof S Bhadury took over as Head in July
1999 and continued till January 2008.
Prof Ragini Singh took over as Head of
Department in January 2008. Presently
the department has 3 and 4 seats for the
degree and diploma courses respectively.
The department offers
round the clock emergency, X-ray and ultrasound
facilities manned by resident doctors
and radiographers. Reporting is done on
the spot for urgent cases. Bedside Xrays
and ultrasound are also provided through
portable units. Probes are available for
general abdomen, pelvic, superficial,
transvaginal and transrectal examination.
A Biopsy kit for interventional utrasound
procedures is now available. Colour doppler
equipment was installed in April 2002.
Probes available are linear and convex.
TV/TR regular work is being done in routine
hours.
Spiral CT scan facility was introduced
through wet lease in November 2001. Currently
round the clock spiral CT facility is
available through 2 CT scanners. CT angiography,
virtual endoscopy and CT guided biopsies
are also being done.
The department has acquired
a 1.5 Tesla multispeed MRI and high resolution
mammography units. MRI system is equipped
with advanced coils and softwares with
facilities for diffusion weighted images,
magnetic resonance spectroscopy, cardiac,
perfusion and functional MRI. Recently,
whole body MRI is being done for disseminated
malignancues. 64 slice MD Ct will soon
be installed with facilities for cardiac
CT, angiography and other advanced procedures.
DSA, C-arm, digital and computer radiography
are under process and will be added to
the department shortly.
Dr Rajendra Rao CME -
2003 was hosted in the department in December
2003. The Foundation Day of the department
was celebrated on 17th December 2005.
First National Pediatric Radiology CME
was held in 2006.
