| Department of Neurosurgery celebrates Foundation Day |

A Neurosurgical Unit was established in the Department of Surgery in the year 1961 with Dr PN Tandon as Professor. After that distinguished faculty Prof VS Dave (1967-1989), Prof G Newton (1989-1993), Prof DK Chhabra, Dr VP Singh (1990-1993) expanded and guided the development of this speciality. In 1994, the unit was upgraded to a Department of Neurosurgery with Dr.Mazhar Husain as Head of Department. Subsequently Dr Ravi Dev, Dr BK Ojha and Dr Anil Chandra have also joined as faculty.
There are 3 seats annually for MCh Neurosurgery. |

Facilities: The department
has a bed strength of 44. There
are 3 operation theatres with modern
equipment such as operating microscope,
CUSA, intraoperative ultrasound,
Perop DSA and micro-doppler, facilities
for endoscopic procedures etc.
Activities: The
department caters to all neurosurgical problems
including head/spinal injury. It is actively
engaged in research, with many publications in
national and international journals. Recently, a
rare surgical feat was accomplished when a
patient was operated under hypothermic cardiac
standstill.
Output: The annual
outdoor attendance is around 11000 and indoor
admissions about 1000. The annual number of
operations is around 1000. |
