OF FORENSIC MEDICINE & TOXICOLOGY |
|
The
Department of Forensic Medicine
& Toxicology (FMT) started in
the year 1918 when Rai Bahadur J.
P. Modi was appointed as whole time
Lecturer. He later held the post
of Materia Medica & Prof. F.M.T.
till 1934. After his departure the
department was managed by part time
H.O.D's (Civil Surgeons/C.M.O.)
till 1982. Prof S.D. Yadav took
charge as full time Professor &
H.O.D. in 1982, followed by Dr.
H.C. Rastogi, and presently Dr.
Baljeet Singh is Head of Department
and Dr A. K. Verma is Assistant
Professor.
The department
was housed with the department of
Pathology upto 1951 when this dept
was shifted in present separate
building. It is the first institution
in India to start awarding P.G.
degree in the year 1951. The laboratory
of this department was shared with
Department of Community Medicine
upto 1961. The mortuary was shifted
to its present premises in 2001.

& procecuting officers&
at times consultation to CBCID
of UP also. |

lecturers of PMS doctors regarding
various medicolegal problems. |

Department
has been giving Medicolegal
services of various nature to
C.B.C.I.D., Judiciary Police,
Administration & G.M. &
A.H. |

Several
textbooks have been written.
These include “Text Book of
Medical Jurisprudence &
Toxicology” written by Dr J.P.
Modi Former Prof. & Head
Dept of F.M.T., C.S.M.C. in1920
and “Medicolegal Companion”
by Dr P.K. Bhattacharya former
reader F.M.T. in 1964. “A Short
review of Forensic Medicine
& Toxicology” was written
by Dr Baljeet Singh present
