A BRIEF HISTORY AND RESUME OF THE DEPARTMENT:
The
Department of Anatomy was one of the four blocks
which were completed for the Chhatrapati Shahuji
Maharaj Medical University, Lucknow at the time of
ceremonial opening of the college building by
Sir John Hewett in January 1912.
The Museum is
one of the best in South East Asia . The initial
lot of specimens, models, charts were brought
from England . Since then major expansions have
taken place. It has various sections like
embryology, gross anatomy, anthropology,
radiology, surface anatomy, osteology, cross
sectional anatomy, genetics etc.

Activities:
1. The
department has fully functional subspecialities
of Gross Anatomy, Imaging Anatomy, Neuroanatomy,
Histology (Microanatomy), Reproductive Biology,
Teratology, Cytogenetics and Tissue Culture and
Embryology.
2. A lot of
work on prenatal sex determination and
chromosomal aberrations in various cases
attending out patient and in patient departments
of the university has been undertaken in the
Cytogenetics and Tissue Culture Lab for over 25
years.
3. Over these years
about 255 research papers have been
published.
4. The Anatomical Society,
founded in 1950, is an educational society
engaged in a number of curricular, co-curricular
and extracurricular activities. Students
are engaged in its administration and activities.
To encourage student participation several
prizes are awarded. The Anatomical Society
of CSMMU is affiliated to the Anatomical
Society of India and its U. P. Chapter.
Addition of new facilities for
teaching:
In the
section of Cross Sectional anatomy about 72
large, normal CT images on plates, labeled in
detail are displayed in the Dissection Hall for
educational use of the undergraduate and
postgraduate students.

Radiological Anatomy teaching through CD on LCD
projector. |

Ultrasonography for teaching and patient
care.
2. Human skeleton; articulated and
disarticulated for educational use.
3.
Embalming of dead human bodies in the department
and at the residence.
