The Chest Surgery Unit of CSM Medical University was established on August 19, 1959 under the guidance of Prof A Charan who was also the first Head of Department. Prof A. Charan pioneered and institutionalized the regular practice of Thoracic & Vascular Surgery. He adorned the chair of the president of the Association of Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgery of India. The unit was elevated to full fledged department in 1998. |

Our new building is under construction with State of Art cardiovascular services under one roof. It has three modular theatres with 20 bedded ICU for cardiac surgery & two catheterisation laboratories with 20 bedded ICU for cardiology. |

open heart surgery (1981) , on pump coronary
artery bypass graft (CABG) operation (1982),
flexible bronchoscopy (1982). heart valve
replacement (1983) and video assisted thoracoscopic
surgery (1997), off pump CABG including
thoracotomy CABG (2002). |
