The M.D.S.
Course in Orthodontics was introduced in January
1965 and about 170 Post-Graduate students have
passed out and are rendering their services not
only in U.P. but also in other states of India,
while some hold academic position in various
Universities in India, U.S., U.K., Europe &
Australia.
Professor R.S.Nanda established
the Postgraduate Department in 1965 and
continued till 1972 and later on joined as
Chairman, Department of Orthodontics at Dental
Health Sciences Center at Oklahama, U.S.A. In
1972, |
Professor D.S. Gupta took over
charge and became the first Head of Department
of Orthodontics in 1981 and continued till
October 1995. Thereafter Professor D.N. Kapoor
became Head and continued in office till 31st
May 2003 and Dr. V.P. Sharma took over charge on
Ist June 2003 and is continuing as Head of
Department.
It is worth mentioning that this
Department is the only Orthodontic Center in
India, which has exclusively rendered
Orthodontic treatment with Edgewise Technique
for the last 42 years.
The Department of
Orthodontics is also imparting training &
teaching at the under-graduate level with
emphasis on clinical teaching, demonstrations
and lectures in the subject of
Orthodontics. |

| Facilities |
|
| Facility is available for
Computerised Cephalometrics by means of
Digiceph. The Department also extends typodont
course on Standard Edgewise Technique for
Postgraduate students from other colleges in
India as and when recommended by the Indian
Orthodontic Society on a yearly
basis. |

| The majority of the patients seeking treatment in the department are mostly come the lower middle (20% to 25%) and lower economic (60% to 65%) status segment of the society. |

| Vision |
| The Department Of Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopaedics, KGUDS intends to introduce Computerized Cephalometry with integrated diagnosis and treatment planning pre-programmed to perform routine analysis with speed, reliability and ease. The Department's future endeavor is use of Orthodontic Implants in order to overcome the limitations of intra-oral and extra-oral anchorage, which enhances patient co-operation, as it provides absolute anchorage. It will add a new dimension in the management of Craniofacial anomalies. |
