| International Georgian Alumni Meet held in Mauritius |

The alumni of this institution are a celebrated fraternity. The King George Medical College, now the Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University has so far produced 2 Padma Vibhushan, 6 Padma Bhushan awardees, 22 Padma Shris, 44 S.S. Bhatnagar award winners, 34 Dr B.C. Roy National Award winners and 16 FNAs'. Besides, a large number of important posts in the Government are or have been held by CSMMU, alumni. These include Director General of Health Services, Director, Railway Medical Services, Director of Armed Forces Medical Services, Director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, Director General Indian Council of Medical Research, New Delhi, President, Medical Council of India, President Dental Council of India, President, National Academy of Medical Sciences etc.

Similarly, CSMMU alumni have reached distinguished positions in America, Europe and other continents. Dr Sharad Lakhanpal - a Georgian, was the President of the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) - a very powerful organisation of about 38,000 physicians in the US. |
The first alumni association of CSMMU, founded in 1929, was the Old Boys Association, later known as KGMC Alumni Association. An International Association of KGMC Alumni was founded in 1989. Activities included hosting of National Georgian Meet every year on the campus and an International Georgian Meet every 2 years, the venue of which would be decided at the previous meeting. The previous such international venues have been Lucknow (1989), Toronto (1991), Lucknow (1993), London (1995), Lucknow (1997) and Los Angeles (July 1999). These overseas meetings were hosted by the respective satellite associations of North America, UK/Europe or Australia. |
In 2006, after the Centenary Alumni Meet, it was decided to merge the two existing alumni associations as well as that of the Dental University (UPKGUDS) into a single Georgian Alumni Association. This will include all the past and present students and the faculty members of KGMC, KGMU, CSMMU & UPKGUDS. A Centenary Alumni Meet was held in the campus on 11th January 2006. The last meet was held in Mauritius in June 2007 and the next one will be held in Australia in December 2008.
In September 2006, it was decided to bring out an E-Newsletter which could be electronically posted to Georgians across the globe. Dr Surajit Bhattacharya, an eminent plastic surgeon and Geogian of 1975 batch was entrusted with this responsibility of publishing and posting this newsletter - to be called "Georgian" every quarter. |
